Fort Saskatchewan's Employment Program Resource Centre

About Us

Careers Under Construction is a fully funded employment program that helps Albertans in Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding area overcome barriers to employment and build the skills they need to find – and keep – meaningful work.

The program is built on the belief that every person’s path to employment is different. CUC takes a people-first, trauma-informed approach, meeting participants where they are and walking alongside them — whether they need help stabilizing their life circumstances, polishing a resume, or gaining hands-on work experience in a real workplace.

Serving Fort Saskatchewan & The Surrounding Area

Built for People. Backed By Purpose.

We are more than an employment program. We are a community of support for Albertans in Fort Saskatchewan & Area who are ready for change and need the right foundation to make it happen.

People First, always

We take a trauma-informed, judgment-free approach to everything we do. Whether someone walks through our door for the first time or returns after a setback, they are met with warmth, dignity, and a team that genuinely wants to see them succeed.

Real Support, Real Results

From one-on-one career coaching and resume help to paid work placements with real employers in Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding area, our participants receive hands-on, practical support that translates directly into employment outcomes.

We Stay With You For The Long Haul

Our commitment does not end when you find a job. We provide formal follow-up and ongoing support at three, six, and twelve months after program completion, because sustainable employment is the goal, not just the starting line.

Who We Are

Careers Under Construction (CUC) is an Alberta Works-funded employment program supporting individuals in Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding area to overcome barriers, build skills, and move toward meaningful, sustainable work.

We understand that no two journeys look the same.

That’s why CUC is built on a people-first, trauma-informed approach. We meet you where you are and walk alongside you—whether you’re stabilizing your situation, rebuilding confidence, upgrading your resume, or gaining hands-on experience in a real workplace.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program. It’s real support, tailored to your path.

What We Do

We deliver Career, Employment and Information Services (CEIS) and Workforce Development (WD) programs designed to help you take the next step—whatever that looks like for you.

Through practical training, personalized support, and strong employer connections, we help individuals:

Overcome barriers to employment

Build in-demand skills and real-world experience

Find and maintain meaningful, long-term work

Move forward into education, training, or career pathways

At the same time, we work closely with employers to support inclusive, accessible workplaces—creating opportunities that benefit both job seekers and the community.

Your Path To Employment Starts Where You Are

No two journeys to employment look the same, and we do not expect them to. Careers Under Construction offers two structured support streams designed to meet you at your current stage of readiness and walk alongside you all the way to sustainable work. Whether you need to build stability and confidence first or you are ready to dive into an active job search, we have a path that fits where you are right now and a dedicated team to guide you every step of the way.

Do You Have Questions About Our Program?

FAQ's

No. The Resource Centre in Fort Saskatchewan is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and you are welcome to walk in any time during those hours. You do not need to call ahead or have anything prepared. Just show up and our staff will take it from there.

Yes. A criminal record is one of the specific barriers this program is designed to help people work through. You will not be turned away because of your history. We work with people dealing with all kinds of challenges, including legal involvement, and we will not judge you for yours.

No, there is no cost to participate in our programs, or to use our Resource Centre in-person.  Drop-in anytime.  The Resource Centre supports people looking for work in any field. Current employer partners offer placements in construction, landscaping, groundskeeping, hotel hospitality, early childhood education, and construction project administration. If none of those fit what you are looking for, CUC staff can work with you and a potential employer to carve out a placement that matches your specific strengths and goals.

Yes, and this might actually be exactly the right time to come in. You do not need to feel ready. Stream 1 of the program is specifically designed for people who want to work eventually but need to get their footing first. We work on life stability, mental health, confidence, and goal setting before the job search even begins. Many participants who came in feeling lost left with a clear plan and the support to follow through on it.

CUC is open to individuals living in our service area within Alberta who are ready to take the next step toward employment, training, or education.

Yes. If you’re unsure, we encourage you to reach out. Our team can walk you through your situation and help determine if the program is a good fit.

No. While people on Income Support, AISH, and ADAP are welcome and eligible, the program is open to a much wider range of Albertans. If you are between 18 and 65, live in Alberta, and are unemployed or working less than you would like to be, you are likely eligible. If you are not sure, the best thing to do is come in or reach out and we will figure it out together.

Stream 1 is for people who want to work but need to get some bigger life challenges more stable first, things like housing, mental health, or financial crisis. Stream 2 is for people who are ready to focus directly on finding a job. You do not choose your stream on your own — when you come in, staff will work with you to figure out which one makes the most sense for where you are right now. You can also move from Stream 1 to Stream 2 when you are ready.

No. CUC stays connected after you find work. You will have formal check-ins at 3, 6, and 12 months after completing the program, and you can reach out by phone, text, or in person any time support is needed. If you are at risk of losing a job due to a difficult transition, there is up to 8 weeks of additional coaching available to help you work through it. The Resource Centre also remains open to you throughout.

The Careers Under Construction Resource Centre is located at Suite 101, 9821 108 Street in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. We serve residents of Fort Saskatchewan, and the surrounding Industrial Heartland area.

To participate in the program, you must:

  • Be between 18 and 65 years old
